Cyclone Phailin Hits East Cost of India

The Eastern coast of India was hit today by Cyclone Phailin, a category 4 storm. We are awaiting daylight for damage assessments to be made. The states most likely impacted are Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.  The last storm of this magnitude to hit the area was in 1999, when nearly 10,000 people lost their lives.

Our Aidmatrix India Offices have been activated as well as our program supporting India’s National Disaster Management Authority, their partner agencies and supporting corporations. These partners utilize the Corporate Disaster Resource Network (CDRN) to coordinate relief (www.cdrn.org.in). The India Food Bank Network, and specifically the Delhi FoodBank. All of these Aidmatrix programs are leaning forward.

Other international relief partners like Save the Children, CARE and Catholic Relief Services are also making preparations in-country.

Financial donations can be made through our Virtual Aid Drive.

In-Kind donations can only be made within India and are not to be sent internationally at this time.

Additional information on Needs will be posted as the situation progresses.

More updates to follow on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and www.aidmatrix.org.
